I've subscribed to Consumer Reports' "Consumers' Checkbook" for years. It's not cheap ($40/year), but I've saved much more than that each year following its recommendations. It has local reviews and solid research that I trust, much more than the online sites where anyone can say anything. We've found lots of repair and service people, doctors, and more and never been disappointed. If it's available in your area, seriously consider it.
