While Fred didn't go to the auction to buy a bird, up came the most beautiful parrot he'd ever seen and he swore he'd have it. But each time he bid, someone raised him! Higher and higher the bidding went until, finally, he won the bird, for far more money than he ever expected to spend. As he paid the clerk, he commented, "After paying this much, I sure hope this parrot can talk." "Talk?" replied the clerk. "Who do you think was bidding against you?"
Dignified lady to ship's captain: "Oh, dear! A seagull has shit on your lapel. I'll get you a tissue." Ship's captain: "Don't bother, ma'am. By the time you get back, that seagull will be miles away!"
